I'm going to be honest here, I haven't seen the original Fright Night. For this reason, I am actually very unbiased and I am able to judge themovie as a standalone. So I will begin. I won't sum up the storylinebecause, honestly, every other review in history has done it. Justscroll down if you want to see the storyline. The storyline was, I admit, a little dodgy in places. Charley's friendjust comes up to him one day and informs him his neighbour is avampire, then goes all vamp on the same night? What? But as long as youforgive that, you're in for a great movie experience. In my humble opinion, the casting was GENIUS. Colin Farrell made theabsolute perfect scary vampire. I haven't actually seen him in anythingbefore, but I might just look into checking out his other movies ifhe's that good an actor. I don't know about you, but his eyebrows areterrifying! (That was a joke.) And, of course, the iconic Doctor Who asPeter Vincent. David Tennant was, honestly, my favourite actor in themovie. They could have developed his back-story a lot more, but really, they did a good job of the developing they managed to get in there.Seeing the good ol' Doctor throwing four- letter words all over theplace was especially entertaining. He was just that hilarious characterthat the movie needed. The CG was pretty dodgy at some points. A lot of the blood spattereffects were horrendous. There's no excusing that. I didn't mind, though, and it doesn't matter too much. It could have been done better, yeah, but let's not get fussy. In all, it was a great movie and I really enjoyed it. If you haven'tseen the original Fright Night, you will most likely really like it. Ifyou have seen the original, push all thoughts of it aside so you canjust enjoy it for what it is.

This movie stands on its own two feet as a suspenseful, action packed, comical and blood soaked Vampire movie of the highest regard. Being ahuge fan of the original, at the tender age of 15 at the time, I wasworried that they may destroy the legacy that Fright Night '85 gaveus... although when you really think about it, Fright Night 2 did thatalready.Fright Night '11 has excellent moments, sublime casting and trulymagical performances from all of its talented cast members. The castingteam should give themselves a great big pat on the back for their work, because this movie could have easily gone pear shaped if they had havebeen effected with the CBF virus, as seen in other casting companies oflate. One of the things I love about Fright Night '11 is the fact that itloosely bases itself on the premise of the '85 version, ie. Living NextDoor To A Vampire, but makes the story, scenes and character depictionsit's very own. I love the new version of Peter Vincent, he made me wanta Midori and Lemonade so bad while I was watching his scenes. ColinFriel also gave a tremendous performance and was an awesome andflawless vampire, I really tried to score him down (Don't know why, maybe I just loved Sarandon's performance), but every second of everyscene that he was in, he shone like the true star that he is.One thing that I did miss from this modern version, something thatshone like a diamond in the sunlight in the original, was thesoundtrack. The Tom Holland version had an awesome soundtrack includingBrad Fiedel's haunting "Come To Me" which kind of became JerryDandridge's anthem. I even bought the original motion picturesoundtrack on cassette back in 1986 and loved it, can't say I willbuying the soundtrack for this version on iTunes anytime soon, but Iguess the kids today aren't all that interested in quality musicanymore, thanks Ke$ha and GaGa.Wrapping up, I would thoroughly recommend Fright Night '11 to any loverof good horror, action, adventure, sitcom movies, it's "Double Snaps"from me.
oneguyrambling 20 February 2012
There was nothing much wrong with the original Fright Night from 1985.I reviewed it earlier this year and gave it what I think is a solidrecommendation. But a generation has passed since that was released, and movieaudiences experience precious little rush at discovering a film aquarter century old that their parents like. So here we are. A funlittle remake of Fright Night with an update to more present dayconventions  meaning more swearing, more frank discussions of sex, more skin and more relevant music. None of these are bad things by theway.Right this guy is Charlie Brewster. Charlie is the son of a single mum(Toni Collette) living in a small housing estate on the outskirts ofLas Vegas, a settlement with an itinerant population boasting manyshift workers and night owls.Charlie was until very recently one of the class geeks, though somehowhe has ascended up the popularity ladder and is now one of the coolkids. This apparently entitles him to a hot girlfriend named Amy(Imogen Poots) and unsolicited comments from neighbouring hot chicks intight pants along the lines of "Gee Charlie you're getting big" whilesaid hottie takes out the garbage.I now invite, suggest, demand that you look again at the picture ofCharlie taken from his performance in this very film. If that allsounds logical and above board the next bit shouldn't test your powersof imagination one iota.Charlie's childhood friend  and unfortunately still a nerd  Ed(Christopher Mintz-Plasse, 4 years on from McLovin and STILL resignedto nerdy sidekick roles) is not distracted by the writing on thederrieres of hotties nor the stirrings in his own fashionable slacks, therefore he sees what others do not. Ed points out the fact thatseveral kids in class have simply and inexplicably stopped showing up,then backs up this anomaly with a theory: it must be the work of avampire.Ed not only theorises the proximity of an undead bloodsucker but healso identifies his accused, Charlie's brand new next door neighbournamed Jerry, who conveniently pops by shortly afterward to introducehimself and to make drooling puddles of both Charlie's Mum andgirlfriend. Jerry is buff, hot, mysterious and nice initially. For those who saw the entertaining low key original not much haschanged, Charlie and co quickly learn the truth  it's fair to say thatJerry isn't too fixated on maintaining anonymity  and the remainder ofthe film has them dealing with the new development. This time though instead of a creaky old has been horror show hostCharlie seeks out the advice of the only man who could possibly providea plan of attack, a renowned Vegas magician and supposed guru regardingall things vampire named Peter Vincent, who is initially reticent tobecome involved but is gradually drawn into proceedings. The characterof Vincent starts out a little one note but he becomes increasinglyamusing and reminiscent of Russell Brand at times. The Fright Night remake wisely doesn't take things too seriously likeremakes of Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween have done in recentyears. It neatly tiptoes the line between shlocky horror and sillycomedy, ably assisted by the performance from Colin Farrell that leavesthe film no option but to stay at least a little silly. (It is a'vampire next door' comedy set in Vegas after all.) Things only get alittle out of hand in the closing scenes where it all gets a littleS.W.A.T. Paintball Commando for a few moments, with the predictableresults that would ensue given such a description, but the CGI assistedgore thankfully never oversteps the mark and Peter Vincent and Jerrykeep the film on the right side of the fun ledger.Final Rating  7 / 10. Fright Night 2011 is a fun way to spend anevening, and like 2010's remake of 'Let the Right One in' called 'Letme in', it benefits from more or less remaining faithful to the sourcematerial and by not being too clever for its own good.(I still think the least plausible thing in the film is the nerdy kidwith the hot girlfriend receiving random compliments from similarly hotstrangers.)
yeti_dude 20 February 2012
Normally I am con 80's remake trend 100%, but Fright Night has TomHolland on board the original writer and director of the first filmunlike the sequel which had no input from Holland. That factor, thestrong trailers, previews, and the positive reviews changed my tune onseeing the film. Thus I threw down 23$ for me and my date and checked it out.-What my first thought is that it takes some VERY unexpected turns fromthe original as well as from most vampire films made about a"dracula-type," so you will be in for a lot of surprises when seeingthe film.-The other thing is that Jerry (not named Dandrigde in the film, justJerry) is quite different from our Danrige. He is about the leastambitious head vampire I've come across and seems purely bent onsurvival much less showing off ambiance in his surroundings. IfDandrige was white collar this Ferrel incarceration is blue collar tothe bone. He's just a beer-guzzling, chick-nailin', wide-screen TVwatching schmoe. And his house illustrates this with it's sparse setdesigns and unfinished interiors. Dandridge was a snob showing off hisReagan-ite values and high-end living: a collector of fine art andhaughty furniture. Jerry Ferrel is just trying to get by. -No EvilEd,just Ed man or Edward Lee as the teacher calls him during rolecall.Well boo to that, but it works for the most part. Ed is more ofCharley's past life friend, since Charlie is a 'cool guy' now gettinghot babes and hanging with the upper-crust of high school society. Edrepresents Charley's geek past and *early spoilers* is the firstinvestigator into the Jerry's tomfoolery. Ed wants to tell Charley, butCharely blows him off and doesn't return his calls. Odd, Charleydoesn't own a cell phone, since Ed has to call Charley's house... Sowhat does Ed do to get Charley to change his rejection tune? Threatento send a video to the entire senior class that shows Charley LARPINGwith Ed and some other dweeb. *Major Spoiler* Ed does not last as longas the original in human form and could have used some developmentIMHO.-Supporting characters are, I suppose, there to, uhhh, support, and arepretty much caricatures: the geeks, the socialites, the modern mom, thestripper, the pretty girl, and even Peter Vincent (demystified, jadedentertainer). They all revolve around Charley and Jerry, who are themore complex and colorful characters.STRENGTHS:-Easily, Jerry Ferrel's screen presence - I'm glad he is now playing anantagonist and can show his chops cuz he seems like a shady guy inprivate. I've already talked about how he is written and he executes itwell while taunting and killin' innocent folk. He pulls off what avillain character portrayel is supposed to do - you want him to die!!And when I say die, I mean in excruciating pain for his arrogance andoverall evil-dome in oppressing society with being deceitful and hisabominable acts.-Directing - this is really one suspenseful film and the scenearchitecture for this type of attempt is marvelous. I am glad they justdidn't rely on technology in creature/gore effects and went for muchmore difficult aspect in shooting: creating tension. Eerily similar toHolland's work in Psycho II.-Plotting. What can I say? The film keeps you guessing. If you know theoriginal by heart, you're in for a lot of surprises. The story takes alot of unexpected turns, and end up thinking 'how will they get out ofthis?' or 'how is this going to get back on track to the original'soutline?' -Jump scenes. There's some great, don't-see-it-coming, dare Isay 'frights' some of them involving the three-D quite well. I don'tthink the film wastes the three-D potential like many others anddoesn't really distract from the film except for maybe one exception.Weaknesses: -The bullying of non-evil Ed, it seemed very stereotypicaland somewhat forced. Necessary? Not really. Ed could have used morescreen time early on as well. Getting beat up for being on the wrongstreet? More like grade school than high school, especially in a newlydeveloped suburban area.-Certain instances of effects didn't work. Like at one point Jerry islifting a van on his back like Supes and it doesn't look like it hasweight at all or that he was connected to it - there were also someother effects involving cars that looked like unfinished CGI. Butover-all the CGI isn't over-indulgent. Some of the fang-work was kindaobvious though.-Peter Vincent's wife. Ugh, so much slapschticky dialog exchangedbetween the two. It's not bad acting. It's just lame comedy, but I amsnob when it comes to this, however I thought it was hackey. Basicallythe two-some do 'can't get it up' exchanges and other such datedbanter. Comic relief fodder that came up snake eyes.-The relationship between Peter and Charley. I really didn't buy thecomradery, so when their side-by-side fighting the vampire and getting'all jokey, you really don't feel the pay-off. I suppose this has to dowith Vincent's not so great character-arc. I thought his transformationof going from skeptic to believer was sloppily handled, which is theaspect that puts the first one head-and-shoulders above this reboot. So the reboot is, overall, a roller-coaster thrill-ride, not a charmingfilm where you re-visit over and over because you love the characters(aka the original Fright Night), but it is an effective bumpy ride.

Nothing like the original but still a very good movie. The 3d is thebest I've seen so far no blurry moments and the acting is good.Although the original is one of my all time favorite films i mean comeon Tom Holland is a genius, an fright night part 2 one of my favoritesequels, (TLW)did a great job directing this film an if you have notseen these films you should go out and get them right now even thoufright night part 2 is hard to come by. Back to the remake even thouits not like the original it brings its own fun. The camera angles arevery well placed giving you everything you need for a scare and a goodtime, an the script was well written. The eighties are over as sad asthat is to say for a horror fan but this along with some others, makesgoing to the movies still fun.
Krellamp 19 February 2012
If I have to rate this movie as a remake of the classic 1985 then itwould get a big fat ZERO. I've given a 6 star rating purely on theentertaining value of the movie as a vampire movie and NOT a remake. This movie does not even come close to being as good as the original. The characters in this movie simply don't resemble the characters fromthe 1985 version in any way whatsoever. The original version is a gazillion times better and did not require aremake in any shape or form. There are only a handful of remakes thatreally are successful. This is NOT one of them. Another terrible remakein my opinion was 'Psycho'.To see this movie the way it was originally intended, then watch the1985 version and simply see this one as another vampire movie that'ssimilar in storyline to the original.
matthewchermside 18 February 2012
I was pleasantly surprised by this film.As a young boy I was terrified by the original back in 1985, which Istill love. This film takes the original story, makes some very subtlechanges, throws in a little shock and gore for the modern audience, andstill manages to add in a few chuckles too. Shame that the 'Evil' Edcharacter is criminally under-used though.I'm glad that this movie did not try to recreate pivotal scenes likethe nightclub seduction scene between Jerry and Amy - that would havebeen impossible, not least because of the original's creepy BradFriedel score and the ominous presence of Chris Sarandon - Farrelldoesn't really come close to the original Jerry to be honest, but he ismenacing in his own way.Farrell's Jerry is more muscle and menace than suave intelligentmalevolence. I liked the cameo for Chris Sarandon, that made me smile alot. This film was a good ride, but for a real fix of terror, check out theoriginal film. Even though it has aged a bit, the lighting, smokeeffects, brilliant musical score, the real sense of suburban terror inyour own backyard, and even the performances are far more affectingthan the remake. There is something lost from the original too bytaking away the original Charley Brewster's horror film obsession -William Ragsdale was excellent as the paranoid obsessive teenager. In summary, this is a surprisingly good remake of a really under-ratedclassic horror film that was truly ahead of its time.

Fright Night is a remake of a 1980's horror movie! The 1980's movie wasall about fun and the remake follows the same theme. The scripts aretotally different, but both movies have similar characters. FrightNight follows a similar stupid theme like the 1980's Lost Boys withmacho vampires, over the top stunts, and vampire hunting. The moviewould not work without Colin Farrell, who perfectly plays the sleazy, smooth talking Vampire with an evil plan. The best over the top sceneis when Farrell is not invited into the protagonist house and can notcome in due to vampire rules. Farrell, because of the vampire rule, causes a gas line explosion to get the protagonist out of his home. Foranyone who watched "The Lost Boys" or "Supernatural" the vampireshunting in this film has a similar style with over the top gadgets, andstunts. Turn your brain off when watching Fright Night and enjoy theride. I give Fright Night a seven out of ten. I wonder why no one everuses chainsaws against vampires?

...not that anyone genuinely thought it would, but Craig "The UnitedStates of Tara" Gillespie's take on the 80s cult favorite, "FrightNight," is not entirely a failure; it's just not as good as it couldhave been, most likely the fault of Marti "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"Noxon's 3D-fixated and otherwise emasculated script.Gone is the ambiguous sex appeal of Jerry the vampire, assayed thistime around as a buff beer-drinking proletarian by Colin "Phone Booth"Farrell, an actor of considerable talent, but little of the urbanecharm of Chris "watch for my uncredited cameo!" Sarandon. The campelement is further reduced by the transformation of our hero, CharleyBrewster, from bookish Everyman to aspiring BMOC, the unabashednerd-ification of "Evil" Ed, the switching of Brewster's mother frommousy hausfrau to full-bore MILF, and--the largest mistake of all--therevamping (sorry) of Peter Vincent from late-night creature-featurehost to Las Vegas impresario. In truth, the only major character thatbenefits from being rethought is Amanda, the love interest, whose onlyreal flaw is that she's so beautiful it's hard to accept she has thatmuch interest in Charley, despite her avowal the script carefullyprovides. The result of all these "re-imaginings" is a film that is quiteimpressively competent on a technical level (and I didn't even see itin 3D), but mostly unsatisfying on an emotional level. The characterssimply aren't as engaging as those in the Tom Holland original, andthere are just a few too many "Hey, wait a minute!"s for lastingcomfort for the discerning viewer. The acting is fine, the photographyby Javier "The Road" Aguirrerobe is reasonably kinetic, and Ramin "Gameof Thrones" Djawadi's score suits the tone of the film well, andGillespie's direction is serviceable, if unextraordinary storytelling.Movies have to move, yes, but they need to go somewhere the audiencewants to go, and in a way that doesn't upset its willing suspension ofdisbelief. This version of "Fright Night" is fangless in that regard.

While not nearly as bad as others say it is here, it is also not thebest but rather, a fast paced edge of your seat gritty film. The filmmakes mincemeat of its star power and goes for the jugular. Oh Yes wecan all quote the originals backwards in our sleep, but this clever anddiabolical treatment keeps up the humor and tension very enjoyably. Agreat little Saturday afternoon popcorn flick with a game Farrell andgood able body cast. I saw this in a good 3D theater. Although the 3Dadds a little juice here and there, Final Destination 5 shows what 3Dis all about. Here the stars are the director and editor who keep everywheel spinning gloriously and the high energy twists and turns keep itfresh even though we all know how it ends.

Many of the moviegoers have grown tired of Remakes, just recycling oldmovies instead of coming up with something new, that actually is goodtoo. But this movie shows us, that Remakes don't have to be awful. Italso shows us, that a remake does not have to copy the original movie1:1! While I still would recommend you to watch the original FrightNight first (I haven't seen the sequel it spawned), I can also tell youthat a few things have been changed around here, so that watching thiscan be fun too.And while Chris Sarandon seemed to own his role in the Original, ColinFarell does a great job with the character in this too. He is obviouslyenjoying this and why shouldn't he? This is how a fun, light HollywoodRemake can look like ...
Vinegaroon3 16 February 2012
I was mildly entertained by this movie. I saw it because a friendreally wanted to go to the movies, and not much else was playing. This was just mildly amusing shallow entertainment. Not particularlyfrightening, nor original, but "OK".It is hard not the compare this "Fright Night" to the original, as thestory is essentially identical. I do not have a deep enoughunderstanding of the subtleties of film to understand why this is so,but the more recent "Fright Night" definitely lacked the charm of theoriginal. One thing for sure, Chris Sarandon was certainly a far bettervampire than Colin Farrell. I never really "felt" Farrell in thatrole...there was just something too pedestrian about him to beconvincing.I will say this...if you have not seen the 1985 original, skip the 2011version entirely and do so. I consider the original a horror movieclassic. The 2011 "Fright Night" was just "OK", nothing more.
capone666 15 February 2012
Fright Night Having a vampire for a neighbour means that they're always dropping byto borrow a cup of AB+.Unfortunately, the only blood that the teen in this horror movie has tolend is inside of his veins.By the time Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves into Charley's (Anton Yelchin)suburb, Nevada locals have already began disappearing. It's not until his friends go missing that Charley suspects that Jerrymay be a vampire. Charley's suspicion is confirmed when Jerry turns hisgirlfriend (Imogen Poots).Declaring war on the bloodsucker, Charley seeks the assistance of a LasVegas magician (David Tennant) who dabbles in vampirism.Though a more carnal account than its 1985 inspiration, this re-makedoes adhere to its muse's mixture of comedy and carnage. And if you think that fighting with your neighbour over their eatinghabits is difficult, wait until you have to confront them about theirunkempt tree branches. I saw this tonight at a free preview. I got what I paid for 1. Ifyou're over 30, you probably won't like this 2. If you've never seenthe other Fright Night, you won't like this 3. If you don't likegratuitous cursing, you won't like this 4. If you like a plot that isnot 100% predictable, you won't like this. The 3D effects were "ok" butnot great. The movie is made for the teenage crowd, but there are some minorattractions for non-teenagers. There were a few funny lines that gottheater-wide chuckles, but they were far and few.The only saving grace was the CGI effects. For that I give it a 3/10
Big D 15 February 2012
What a waste. Fans of the original BEWARE. The decisions of thefilmmakers to lift lines, plot devices and general little things fromthe original, is totally unmotivated, and downright "lame." The "it"word of the moment, "really", is uttered at least 4 times, ad nausea,in an attempt to keep the dialogue fresh. Bad. Gillepsie, the director, should stick to TV. Toni Colette is a bona fide talent but isdisposable in this useless role. Their are so many things wrong withthis film, I refuse to carry on writing this review, so in a nutshell-RE-WATCH the original, unless spending money on trite, overblown,BORING dribble like this is your thing. On the plus side, Colin Farreldoes call all his young male co-stars "guy."

OK, so I just got back from seeing this at the show, and I can Honestlysay that this is equally as good as the original. The acting is topnotch, the efx were pretty neat, I likes how at the end they had Amylook the same as her "vamp look" the same as in the original(the biggoofy smile with the sharp teeth). The appearance of Chris Surrandon(the original Jerry) was awesome, iwas kind of sad that he got killed, but still. One person I want to give tremendous amounts of credit to is CollinFarrel(Jerry). He adapted the part so well, he was just one badassdude, he didn't try to play a nice guy or anything, he just wentstraight for the neck. And he had a neat and cool look to him.All in all, excellent movie, I recommend this movie to anybody.

In a time when Hollywood studios are looking for an easy buck byremaking every single popular movie they can get there hands on, itmakes perfect sense to bring back the 1985 vampire classic FrightNight; the story of a horny teenage boy living next to a vampire. AntonYelchin plays Charley, a popular high schooler living in a suburb ofLas Vegas who happens to be dating Amy (Imogen Poots), the hottest girlin school. When Ed, Charley's nerdy childhood friend (ChristopherMintz-Plasse) warns him that kids have gone missing and that a vampiremy be the cause, Charley shrugs it off. However once Charley learns thehorrible truth he is tasked with the same nightmare Ed was unable tosolve, convincing others that "Jerry the vampire" is murdering people. In order to protect his family and girlfriend from Jerry, played byColin Farrell, Charley enlists the help of Vegas show runner PeterVincent, played by the popular David Tennant of the TV series DoctorWho. Peter Vincent is a drunk ego maniac who is an expert on everythingvampire. Unfortunately Peter is also a bit of a chicken when it comesto actually facing the undead bloodsuckers.Fright Night [2011] stays fairly true to the original with thebasically the same characters and plot line of the original. At thesame time it's a well done modernization of the tale, making some ofthe elements of the previous iteration a bit more realistic. There isplenty of homage to the original but something new is the amount ofcomedy director Craig Gillespie's injects. There's plenty of laughs andreferences to the plague that is Twilight which makes watching a movieabout a neighborhood vampire that much more fun. Another tweak betweenthe versions is a more action based focus than the original. There areexplosions, shotguns, and car chases making the film a bit moreadventurous. Fright Night's acting is mediocre except for the performance by DavidTennnant, who brings most of the humor. Colin Farrell plays a decentvampire, who's charm allows him to disarm his would be accusers. However Farrell's body size works against him in that it takes awayfrom the fear that you'd expect of a vampire . Colin Farrell has neverreally had an intimidating and threatening film presence and wearingclothing out of a Ralph Lauren commercial doesn't help. In contrastChris Sarandon, the original Jerry, was a stalking six foot tree, whomade all other actors sharing the screen shrink. Toni Collette's talentis pretty much wasted in this film. Her relationship to Yelchin neverreaches believability as the two act more like chummy roommates ratherthan mother and son. If I had to choose one Fright Night to rewatch the 80s version wouldwin every time. Not only because the practical effects are simplyamazing but also the fact that the classic took full advantage of its Rrating which the 2011 version doesn't. There's something sexy about the1985 version that the 2011 adaptation leaves behind. Sure, there arehot and skinny women walking around in lingerie and plenty of swearwords but there's not the same sense of danger and seduction that wasinfused in the original. As for the 3D, and speaking as someone who hates 3D, I begrudginglyrecommend seeing Fright Night in 3D. The blood splattering and theglass flying at you makes the film feel like a carnival ride, whichadds to Fright Night's fun. The original Fright Night is not a filmthat has aged particularly well, and neither will Craig Gillespie'sversion. However that doesn't mean teenagers and horror fanaticsshouldn't take advantage of what is a decent vampire ride. 6 out of 10 This film is not for: Film viewers expecting anything profound

Once again, Hollywood is running out ideas and it's Fright's Night'sturn for the remake. Fright Night is a huge cult classic that I'm surewas expected to flop, instead turned into a pleasant surprise. It's afun film that came out of the 80's and is a classic treasure; it's likeRear Window with vampires. I didn't see the film until a few years ago,not sure how I missed it, I guess The Lost Boys was my vampire film ofthe 80's. But I loved the film and its clever mix of horror and humor.Plus it has a great cast, fun effects and a cool story. To remake it,again, everyone gets upset at first but from the trailer the filmactually looked pretty good. I saw this opening day looking forward toseeing a reboot and while it's certainly flawed, this is actually apretty decent remake. Charley Brewster is a teenager who discovers he has a new neighbormoving in next door to him. Charley's geeky ex-friend, Ed, tells himthat many fellow students have gone missing. Charley disregards this, but talks him into coming to an old friend's house to check if he'salright. When Charley goes home after school, his mother introduces himto Jerry, who is the new neighbor. Charley meets up with Ed who informshim that his new neighbor is a vampire, Charley doesn't believe Ed andleaves. On his way home Ed is confronted by Jerry who convinces him tobecome a vampire and bites him. The next day Charley realizes that Edis missing and decides to go to his house to investigate. As Jerrybegins to attack more people throughout the neighborhood, Charley goesinto Jerry's house and finds out that he is keeping all of his victimsin secret rooms. Charley decides to go to Las Vegas magician PeterVincent, a supposed expert on vampires and hope to destroy Jerry beforehe gets to his mother and beautiful girlfriend. Colin Ferrel, what can I say? Who could have been a more perfectchoice? After his stint in rehab, I'm sure he more than enjoyed gettingback into playing the bad boy. His Jerry may not have the exact samecharm as Chris Sarandon, but you can tell he had a lot of fun andbrought a lot to the character. However I wasn't as excited on thechoice for Charlie, Anton Yelchin, who was actually kind of boring inmy opinion. You can tell he tries but I don't think he had the bestlines to work with. Now David Tennant who replaces Roddy McDowall wasactually a decent replacement almost like a Cris Angel character, buthonestly, even if I get hate for this comment, I think I would haveloved to see Russell Brand in this role if they were going for thatdirection. There are a few disappointments with the film like not having the samechemistry that the original Charlie and Peter had, it seems like theirrelationship is more rushed in the remake and not like they reallybelong together. Also, since the film does take itself seriously as ifwe are supposed to buy that this is happening in our real world, how isit that there is absolutely no police investigation when people aremissing? I mean, they say that people pass through Vegas and are neverheard from again, but an entire family is missing and nothing isquestioned? Also I was upset with the lack of Ed, I loved the plotchange with him, but we didn't have enough Ed which ChristopherMintz-Plasse plays pretty well. The script may need work however; Istill had fun watching the action and special effects. Though I don'tthink that the 3D was exactly needed for the film, they stuck to theoriginal look to the vampires which I'm glad they did. But please, nomore Twilight references, let's just try to forget those books ormovies ever existed. Before I end the comment since I'm running out ofroom here, doesn't the poster remind you of No Country for Old Men?Maybe it's just me no, it's not me, they copied the poster. But Ienjoyed the film, I'm pretty sure those who loved the original will geta good kick out of the remake. Its fun, stylish, sexy and exactly thegood time horror movie we needed this year.7/10

The Tom Holland's 1985 "Fright Night" is one of the most charming filmsof the cinema history. The story is funny and the humor is witty, withthe handsome Chris Sarandon performing one of his best roles andWilliam Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse and specially Roddy McDowall hilarious. In summary, the 1985 original film may be considered a new classic, worshiped by a legion of fans. This teen remake is simply awful, with explosions, car chase and acynical and charmless Colin Farrell in the role of Jerry Danridge.People who have positively voted in this garbage have certainly notwatched the original film. My vote is one (awful).Title (Brazil): "A Hora do Espanto" ("The Fright Hour")

Let's face it, if you're a horror aficionado, there's been a severedrought. The remakes over the years have been total crap. And I was notvery hopeful about this one. But I was very wrong. I read some greatreviews, but still wasn't convinced, so I decided to see for myself.Wow. Smart, intelligent script by Marti Noxon. And I was so glad to seethat Tom Holland had a hand in it. Some people say it's a little slowin the beginning, but I can actually watch European movies so I don'tmind a slow set up. Craig Gillespie shows here that he has a lot incommon with Hitchcock. The car chase especially. The camera work hereis amazing and very innovative. The score is also reminiscent ofBernhard Herman, believe it or not. I'm definitely going to be watchingto see what Gillespie does next. And the acting is really top notch:Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Toni Collette, and David Tennant all hitjust the right notes every step of the way. But now for my favorite:Colin Farrell! Holy Moly! This guy is freaking incredible! He's aleading actor in a character actor's body! I've never seen such achameleon! I've been checking out his other films, and I am absolutelyblow away! You know I'm a lifelong film lover. Even going toacting/film school and I've just never seen anything like this guy.Going to see Horrible Bosses tomorrow. I hear he has a combover and agut!! Oh well, if he can pull off a spot on Texas accent, sing countryand play the guitar in Crazy Heart, well I'm sure I will have to pickmy jaw off the floor...again. Really looking forward to the TotalRecall remake now. Anyway if you haven't seen this film, you trulydon't know what you're missing. I can't wait to see it again.
